Blood is apparently no longer enough for vampires. The newly released trailer for Vampire Carnival introduces a rather different breed of the undead — creatures who feed not on blood, but on human despair — while turning a mysterious traveling carnival into the gateway to their hidden world.
Opening in theaters October 7 from Aura Entertainment, Vampire Carnival stars Nell Verlaque, who horror audiences will recognize from Thanksgiving, alongside Jason Isaacs, Paulina Chávez, Kieron Moore, Eoin Macken, Alicia Sanz and Cedrick Cooper.
Welcome to the Vampire Carnival
Verlaque plays Gemma, a grieving young woman drawn to a carnival that suddenly appears in her small town. Its promise of spectacle and escape proves difficult to resist, but there’s considerably more going on behind the midway attractions.
The carnival is actually an entrance to a supernatural realm inhabited by vampires who survive by consuming human despair. As Gemma becomes increasingly trapped by the carnival’s seductive illusions, escaping means confronting the trauma she’s been attempting to leave behind — or becoming another permanent part of the attraction.
The newly released trailer leans heavily into that mixture of Gothic fantasy and psychological horror, with Jason Isaacs’ mysterious Toussaint apparently playing an important role in drawing Gemma deeper into the carnival’s world.
Some Serious Horror Credentials
Vampire Carnival is directed by David Charbonier and Justin Powell, the filmmaking team behind The Boy Behind the Door and The Djinn. The screenplay comes from brothers Jason and Peter Filardi. Peter Filardi wrote the original Flatliners and The Craft, while Jason Filardi’s credits include the vampire series Chapelwaite.
The movie has been rated R for strong bloody violence, sexual content and nudity, drug use and language, suggesting that despite its more unusual approach to vampire feeding, Vampire Carnival isn’t abandoning the blood entirely.
Aura Entertainment releases Vampire Carnival in theaters October 7, 2026.
