AMC (and its streaming service, AMC+) continue throwing caution to the wind as they more closely embrace the vampire genre, beginning with its series take on Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire with other components of The Vampire Chronicles in development. Now get set for an eight-episode limited series titled Firebite, which is currently shooting in South Australia.
This is the official synopsis: “Firebite is set in a remote desert mining town, a hive for the last vampire stronghold shipped from Britain to Australia in 1788 by the colonial superpower to eradicate the Indigenous populations. Sheltering from the sun in the underground mines and tunnels that surround the town until the present day, the colony’s numbers and hunger is growing. War is coming. Tyson and Shanika stand vanguard to the war. But what hope does an expertly reckless man full of bravado and a 17-year-old orphan possibly have to defeat these vicious blood-thirsty parasites, when legions of warriors before them have failed?”
The series stars Rob collins and Shantae Barnes-Cowan as indigenous Australian hunters Tyson and Shanika, respectively; as well as Yael Stone. The show is created by Warwick Thornton, who shares directorial duties with Tony Krawitz and Brendan Fletcher. The show will be premiering on AMC+ on December 16.
